Ensemble Kandinsky: The Vision

Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and many other key painters of the 20th century had deep and enduring musical affinities. Kandinsky demanded that a painting „must vibrate with sound“. By juxtaposing fine art and classical music, the Ensemble Kandinsky tries not only to intensify the impact of chefs d’ouvres of classical modern art but also the public’s appreciation of both art forms. To this end, it chooses compositions matching the overall theme, or individual items, of an exhibit and performs them directly within the exhibition hall or in front of individual paintings, aided by an experienced moderator. Presenting fine art in this way addresses both vision and hearing – two of our most acute senses.

The Ensemble Kandinsky Switzerland was founded in 2014 and has quickly developed into an internationally successful music group thanks to its exciting concept and its highly skilled musicians. In the 2015/2016 season the ensemble performs concerts at Tate Modern London, the art collection of Düsseldorf and DB-Kunsthalle in Berlin. This year‘s season was launched by performances at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. In September 2015, the world-renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie will join the ensemble to premiere a commission, awarded to the Swiss composer Fabian Müller by the ensemble Kandinsky Switzerland.
